Books That Have Been Made into Films

Why do people turn books into films? It completely ruins the story and you can never imagine it the same again.

Holes
I watched the dvd of holes yesterday and because i had read the book i didnt apreciate how good the film was. It was an amazing film but it was ruined by the fact that it was word for word of the book. I think I would of been better off reading it after watching the film as i would of been able to picture every little detail the way it is supposed to look. I was also annoyed that they made the story exactly the same but not the characters, for example Caveman or Stanley Yelnats had straight hair in the book but they cast someone to play him that had tight curls and there was no description at all. Another thing is that the film had no real time scale, in the book the end scenes happen over the course of a week but they show it happening in the same day.

Harry Potter
Harry Potter is the best example I could find to make my point about how books should NEVER be made into films. I have been a big fan of the Harry Potter books for nearly 6 years now which means i read them before hardly anyone new about it and it was really hyped up. I have not enjoyed a single Harry Potter film yet because it is word for word of the book and when I saw the first film it completely destroyed my imagination it was worse than telling a small child that there is no Father Christmas when there clearly is (how else do the presents get there?). Even though i really enjoyed the books I think all the hype was the worst thing that could of happened to Harry Potter and J.k Rowling because in my opinion she has now become really big headed and thinks she can write any old rubbish and still make millions but eventually everyone will realise they should of listened to me when i said the books and films had been ruined by all this hype.
